Peshtigo Fire Museum and Cemetery and Marinette Logging Museum
Thursday, August 23, 2018

Participants will carpool to the Peshtigo Fire Museum and be met there by a society member who grew up in Peshtigo with all its local stories.  The morning will start with a visit to the Peshtigo Fire Museum where the details of that fateful night will be shared.  That will be followed by a walk through the Fire Cemetery to the mass grave memorial on the banks of Trout Creek.

After lunch at a local restaurant, participants will visit the Marinette Logging Museum located on Stephenson Island.  Don’t be discouraged by “logging”!  This museum will provide a glimpse into Northern Wisconsin history including the famous Queen Marinette.  Exhibits include the history of Isaac Stephenson and selected furnishings from his home.  True to its name, there is a detailed scale model of an 1800’s logging camp and one wing of the museum contains the equipment from an authentic Wisconsin sawmill.
